Colin Sharp has brought us his soul Funkturn Show. We visit Colin Once a week as he takes us through some of the finest and rarest Grooves

Currently playing Jazz Funk, Soul, Funk, and new edits, at Central Park Middlesbrough on a monthly basis when conditions allow.

How did I get started?

I suppose I started out on the Jazz Funk scene around 1978 at Philmores in Saltburn, and at the legendary downstairs room at the Top Deck in Redcar. And as chance had it that is where my DJ career started. Working as a glass collector in ‘The Deck’ as it was known, I stepped up into the DJ booth one night, when the regular DJ failed to turn up. The following night still no DJ, so obviously I was back in the booth again, and that is how it all started.
 

Who has influenced me?

Robbie Vincent is my favourite all time DJ and still is. Later I was influenced by the late Les Adams, with his 2 hour take over show. And by local legend the late great Tony Hargan.

So, having to go to work for a living I had 30 years off from being a DJ. 

And once again by chance I was invited to a local event ‘Doin it in the Park’ hosted by Ray Greening, who after having a conversation with Ray ended up with me back behind the decks.

So, from there SoulFunkshun became my DJ advertisement for private events and occasions.
